Garbh (Fetus) + Sanskar (Developmental and Educational ritual) is an ancient Indian practice to influence the physical, mental and behavioral evolvements through the progressive stages of an unborn baby at the Gestational Age’. These influences are induced by the physical, mental, behavioral and social situation and environment of the mother carrying the baby in her womb. In short, this phrase can be termed as the Science of Gesto- Evolutional Persona or ‘Garbh Sanskar’ popularly.
‘Garbh Sanskar’ stands in the middle of two major rituals-
This whole journey of ‘Garbh Sanskar’ is designed and followed as per the monthly development of fetus and for each organ to develop at its adequate time of gestational age.
Ancient Evidences
Pre-Conception
Garbhadhaan Sanskar (Pre-Conception) is associated with purifying the bodies of both parents to generate premium Beej (healthy Sperm and Ovum) from both parents and a healthy body of mother to be, for the conception to take place.
Bal Sanskar
Baal Sanskar is a set of rituals performed at the different stages of childhood starting from the developmental milestones in infancy to the age of schooling for child’s socio-behavioural training.
Garbh Sanskar is a practice that has been long followed in the ancient times and we have been told about ‘Garbh Sanskar’ in great deal in the epics like ‘Mahabharat’ where Abhimanyu; son of Arjun was trained at martial skills in her mother’s womb even before he took birth. The other similar evidences too have been quoted in ‘Vishnu Puraan’. Though to imbibe a child with such skills in womb is a big task in the current era as the details of such in depth ‘Garbh Sanskar’ are missing due to the loss of those scriptures that describe such journey of a child before he/she takes birth. However, the latest scientific researches and recent evidences suggest that keeping a certain disciplined lifestyle, diet and ambience in the home and around the mother do help greatly to the expecting mothers during the ‘Garbh Sanskar’.

Diet and Lifestyle
Ayurveda says whatever a mother eats, the Ras of that food gets divided in three parts: Mata, Garbh and Stan i-e milk for the nourishment of the born infant. Hence a pregnant lady is ought to eat appropriate number of calories with balanced nutrients which need to be exclusively designed as per the individual body type and requirement. The concept of individuality in Ayurveda can be understood with a simple example- A woman with small body frame and low weight will be requiring to have totally different diet and lifestyle than a woman with large body frame and more weight. This diet and nutrition is planned and modified every month in the ‘Garbh Sanskar’ journey on the basis of requirements and developmental stages of the fetus such as brain, heart, skin, hair, blood, and Ojas of the unborn child.
